Pheromones and traps as part of integrated control of the spruce bark beetle. Some results from a control programme in Norway in 1979 and 1980

Pheromones and traps as part of integrated control of the spruce bark beetle. Some results from a control programme in Norway in 1979 and 1980

Rapport, Norsk Institutt for Skogforskning (5/81): 39

Pheromone dispensers containing methybutenol, (S)-cis-verbenol and ispdienol were placed in about 600 000 traps positioned in areas throughout Norway where trees had been killed by Ips typographus in 1978. Catches were monitored in a random selection of the traps (1% in 1979, 1/2% in 1980). By the middle of June the traps had caught 79% (1979) and 96% (1980) of the season's total catch. Average catch/trap was 4701 (1979) and 7406 (1980) but variation was considerable.
