With P. hordei inoculation 4-6 d after E. graminis f.sp. hordei, the germination rate of urediniospores near E. graminis hyphae was reduced, only a small proportion of the germ tubes reached stomatal cells, and urediniospores within the net of E. graminis hyphae formed atypical germ tubes. Effects of both parasites on number of uredinia, size of mildew pustules, onset of fructification, duration of sporulation and spore production were observed after inoculation on opposite leaf surfaces.
