Physiological effects of a juvenile hormone analog on larvae of Spodoptera littoralis

Topical application of the juvenile hormone analogue ZR-619 to larvae of the noctuid Spodoptera littoralis extended the duration and increased the final weight of the last instar. No supernumerary moults occurred. Respiration decreased to very low levels and glycogen and lipid stores increased. Respiration remained lower in triprene-treated pharate pupae, and more polyunsaturated C18 fatty acids accumulated than in normal pharate pupae.
