Postemergence weed control in sunflowers with desmedipham and phenmedipham

In field studies in 1981-2, tank mixtures of 0.13, 0.28, 0.44, 0.56 or 0.71 kg desmedipham and phenmedipham/ha were applied to sunflowers at the 6-leaf stage. Desmedipham gave better Sinapis arvensis and Amaranthus retroflexus control than phenmedipham. Control of S. arvensis was adequate with either herbicide but A. retroflexus control was poor. There was a synergistic interaction between the 2 herbicides for S. arvensis control with all combinations except those with 0.71 kg desmedipham/ha.
