Race-specific effects in major genic and polygenic resistance of barley to barley leaf rust in the field: identification and distinction

Race-specific effects in major genic and polygenic resistance of barley to barley leaf rust in the field: identification and distinction

Euphytica 34(3): 689-695

Six partially resistant cultivars were exposed to 4 Puccinia hordei races in the field over 2 years. P. hordei infection varied among cultivars, races and years. There was a significant interaction of cultivars and races; the interactions of Armelle with races 22 and A, and that of Tyra with A, were towards a lower level of infection. These reduced rust levels were due to major genes for hypersensitivity effective against the rare races 22 and A but not against the common 1-2-1 and F.
