Reclamation as an ecological problem. 3. Development of vegetation on a dumped cover layer

Reclamation as an ecological problem. 3. Development of vegetation on a dumped cover layer

Verhandlungen der Gesellschaft fur Okologie 13: 767-772

On neutral soil consisting of loamy sand with a high proportion of skeletal material overlying a former rubble dump, the early vegetative development was studied in relation to different treatments, started in 1980. The following treatments were compared: (A) grass mixture sown following rotary tillage; (B) no human interference apart from the initial levelling. During 1980-83, vegetative changes were rapid on B in contrast to slowly fluctuating changes on A.
