Responses of some corn hybrids to various sowing densities at the Suceava experiment station

7 hybrid maize were grown during 1974-80 at population densities of 40 000-90 000 plants/ha. Increasing plant density increased plant height of HT 108 and HT Sv.17-76 during 1980 while plant height was max. at 64 500 plants/ha for HT Sv.19-76. Stem diam. and LAI decreased with increasing plant density, while assimilation index increased, and was max. at 70 000-90 000 plants/ha. Other parameters investigated included plant lodging and sterility, 1000-grain weight and grain CP content.
