Vertical pulling resistance (VPR) was measured on 6 dates for 20 hybrids (14 from a diallel cross of inbreds plus 6 controls) to evaluate VPR measurement as a screening technique for lodging resistance. For most hybrids, VPR increased until 98 days after planting (DAP) and then decreased. There were significant differences among hybrids at all dates except 56 DAP. Differences were largest and hybrid X date interactions were smallest during the period 70-98 DAP.
