Seasonal changes in spontaneous oestrus and ovulation in Border Leicester X Merino and Dorset X Merino ewes

Weekly records of oestrus and monthly records of ovarian examinations (laparoscopy) were studied for 50 Border Leicester (BL) X Merino and 50 Dorset Horn (DH) X Merino ewes. The study commenced in Dec., when the ewes were aged 1.3 yr, and continued for 14 months. The ewes were run at pasture in the continuous presence of vasectomised rams. Body weight of the ewes increased by an average of 13 kg during the study.
