Secretion of calcium into the lumen of the small intestine of chickens and the role of vitamin D in the process

Secretion of calcium into the lumen of the small intestine of chickens and the role of vitamin D in the process

Transportnye i obmennye protsessy v kishechnike zhivotnykh: 46-56

White Leghorn chickens were reared for 24 days on a vitamin D-free diet, and for 72 h before death they were given by mouth 1000 IU of cholecalciferol. Secretion of calcium into the duodenal lumen was studied in situ in chickens starved for 16 to 18 h. The exposed duodenum was ligated into a segment to which was introduced 1 ml of 154 mM NaCl without or with 0.5 mM CaCl2, 5 mM CaCl2 or 20 mM CaCl2.
