Signs of the times

British Sugar Beet Review 54(2): 38

DOI: 10.2307/3157004

Changes that have occurred in sugarbeet growing in the UK between 1981 and 1985 are discussed. Use of Na was on a greater scale in 1985 than 1981, although the rates used were similar. Use of N fertilizer was reduced over the period. A greater percentage of the crop was drilled using 12-row drills in 1985 than in 1981. Techniques in using herbicides have also changed, with an increase in multiple applications and a reduction in quantity used. More irrigation is now being used on sugarbeet.
