Some evidence of erosion hazards in the tropics is presented. Edaphic and climatic factors relating to soil erosion are considered. Soil erosion in tropical and temperate climates is compared. The effects of slope characteristics and scale of measurement, also the effects of deforestation and changes in land use are assessed. Crop productivity is examined in relation to soil erosion.
