Soil fungi: measurement of hyphal length

Soil fungi: measurement of hyphal length

Soil Biology and Biochemistry 16(3): 279-280

Hyphal lengths of fungi in two fine sandy loams were determined by several methods, which enabled the following comparisons to be made: (a) bright field vs phase contrast microscopy, (b) stained vs not stained, (c) a dilution series of a soil suspension, (d) 150 xvs 300 x vs 600 x vs 1000 x magnification, (e) dried vs fresh agar films.
