Spatial distribution of clover root curculio, Sitona hispidulus (Fabricius) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), eggs in relation to alfalfa crowns

Spatial distribution of clover root curculio, Sitona hispidulus (Fabricius) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), eggs in relation to alfalfa crowns

Journal of the Kansas Entomological Society, 582: 346-348

The larvae of Sitona hispidulus feed on the roots and root nodules of lucerne in Kentucky, not only causing physical damage but also increasing the susceptibility of the plants to invasion by soil pathogens. The spatial distribution of the eggs over the crown of the lucerne plants was investigated throughout the spring oviposition period of the adults. About 65% of the total number of eggs was found within 10 cm of the crown centre.
