Specificity of queen and worker pheromones in a honeybee colony

Specificity of queen and worker pheromones in a honeybee colony

Khemoretseptsiya Nasekomykh (6): 74-79

Worker honeybees were trained to follow trails made by: (1) an alcohol extract of queens; (2) an alcohol extract of workers; (3) scent markings of workers. After training, the bees were able to discriminate between the different pheromones; they could also differentiate between pheromones from bees of different races, or even from different colonies of the same race.
