In 1975-8, in 2 series of field trials fodder beet, spring barley, maize and winter wheat were grown in rotation on good wheat and very good rye soils, while potatoes, oats, maize and rye were grown on good rye and weak rye soils. In one series, 2nd yr cereals were followed by a winter cover crop of rye. Various combinations of 80-120 kg N, 0-120 kg P2O5 and 0-180 kg K2O/ha were applied to each crop in the rotation.
