Studies on chemical control of a nuisance chironomid midge (Diptera: Chironomidae). 2. Chemical control of the midge larvae in a sewage plant by dripping technique and the effects of chemicals on microorganisms in activated sludge

Japanese Journal of Sanitary Zoology 36(4): 295-302

Larvae of Chironomus yoshimatsui occurred in large numbers in the final sedimentation tanks, overflow gutters, disinfecting tanks and discharge channels of a sewage treatment plant in Tokyo, Japan. The relative efficacy of wettable powder formulations of temephos and chlorpyrifos-methyl against larvae was assessed by dripping different concentrations of the insecticides into the overflow gutters for different periods of time (0.5 p.p.m. for 120 min to 4.0 p.p.m. for 15 min).
