Studies on the storage of autumn-harvested onion bulbs. I. Influence of storage temperature and humidity on sprouting during storage

Studies on the storage of autumn-harvested onion bulbs. I. Influence of storage temperature and humidity on sprouting during storage

Research Bulletin of the Hokkaido National Agricultural Experiment Station (141): 1-16

Onion bulbs in store sprouted earliest at a temperature of 15 degrees C, compared with both lower and higher temperatures. No sprouting occurred until late July in autumn-harvested bulbs stored at 0-2 degrees. Humidity affected the incidence of rotting but had little influence on sprouting. Bulb quality remained good for 15 and 9 days when bulbs stored at 0 degrees were transferred to 15 and 25 degrees , respectively.
