Suitability of the white-marked tussock moth (Lepidoptera: Lymantriidae) as an alternate host for the imported gypsy moth (Lepidoptera: Lymantriidae) parasite, Rogas lymantriae Watanabe (Hymenoptera: Braconidae)

In choice experiments in the laboratory, Rogas lymantriae, a braconid ectoparasite from Japan, preferred larvae of Lymantria dispar to those of Orgyia leucostigma, and development from oviposition to mummification was significantly longer in O. leucostigma than in L. dispar. There were no differences in sex ratio of R. lymantriae reared in the different hosts; hence, O. leucostigma is a suitable alternative host for R. lymantriae.
