Survey of precipitating antibodies to bluetongue virus in domestic animals of the Sudan

Survey of precipitating antibodies to bluetongue virus in domestic animals of the Sudan

Bulletin of Animal Health and Production in Africa 31(2): 95-99

Using a slide gel diffusion precipitation test, 1309 serum samples collected from cattle, sheep and goats from various regions of the Sudan in 1979-81, were examined for precipitating antibodies against group-specific bluetongue (BT) virus antigen. The overall positive rate for all three species was 84.6%; 93% of 627 cattle, 86% of 226 goats and 73% of 456 sheep were positive. There seemed to be no significant differences in positive rates between confined and free-range cattle.
