Survival and herbage yield of six nitrogen-fixing trees intercropped with taro in Western Samoa

Survival and herbage yield of six nitrogen-fixing trees intercropped with taro in Western Samoa

Nitrogen Fixing Tree Research Reports 2: 22-23

An alley cropping agroforestry trial was established in April/May 1982 at Nafanua, Upolu, using Leucaena leucocephala, Samanea saman, Gliricidia sepium, Sesbania grandiflora, Erythrina subumbrans and Calliandra calothyrsus as green manure for Colocasia esculenta. Trees were cut with a bush knife to av. 35 cm above ground to simulate normal farming practices. After the first taro harvest in Jan. trees were cut back to 25 cm.
