Technology of maize cultivation for grain on the Moldavian plateau

For growing maize for grain, recommended levels of fertilizer application were 30-50 t FYM/ha applied to podzolic soil over 4-5 years, with 5-10 t lime/ha, and 60-80 kg P/ha (soluble soil P levels of <2 mg/100 g soil), 40-60 kg (soil P levels of 2-6 mg) or 30-40 kg P (soil P levels of >6 mg) applied in spring. Grain yields increased from 5.46 t/ha in unfertilized controls to 6.77 t with 40 t FYM + 50 kg N + 50 kg P/ha, and was increased further by increasing N application.
