The 1% rule should not be applied too rigidly

The 1% rule should not be applied too rigidly

Groenten en Fruit 40(11): 46-47

From preceding studies it appears that the old rule of "1% reduction in light = 1% loss in yield" does not always apply. Data are graphically presented on the effects of a 15% reduction in light on the cropping of hothouse tomatoes, assessed on 1 May, 1 July and 1 September. Light reduction during propagation resulted in smaller plants when planted out on 1 January, and this check was reflected in delayed harvesting.
