Sugarbeet BETA Monopoli N 1 grown during 1978-9 on humic carbonate meadow chernozem soil was treated with 120 kg P2O5, 140 kg K2O kg and 0-320 kg N in 80 kg steps/ha. Crop growth rate was determined from monthly harvests and DM yields were subjected to chemical analyses. DM accumulation increased considerably from July. Significant yield responses to N occurred only at 80 kg N/ha; higher N rates affected leaf DM production.
