A discussion of the forms of soil water and of the forces acting on it indicates that all the various P(W) and K(W) curves (where P is water pressure, W is water content, and K is water conductivity) can be divided into groups in terms of the specific surface and water retention and movement mechanisms, since a generalized description of the hydrophysical properties of soils is possible only for forces of a single nature.
