For 7 weeks rats were given a cholesterol-rich basal diet with fat a triglyceride (TG) rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids or maize oil or butter, then for 8 weeks no supplement or alpha -tocopherol (60 mu g/g), gamma -tocopherol (482), ubiquinone (96), beta -sitosterol (3035) or a mixture of all 4. In combination with the TG diet gamma -tocopherol, beta -sitosterol and the mixture increased excretion of bile acids and cholesterol.
