The influence of yield components on the grain yield of maize lines and two-line hybrids and their mutual correlations

In 18 single-cross hybrids and their seed parents, the highest correlation found (r = 0.822) was between the number of rows on the cob in the 2 generations. Values greater than r = 0.4 were also found for number of grains/ear, the weight of grain/plant and 1000-grain weight. The contribution of each component to total yield is displayed graphically for each hybrid, and for each the pattern is unique.
