The major prolactin releasing activity from bovine posterior pituitary is identified as neurophysin-II

The major prolactin releasing activity from bovine posterior pituitary is identified as neurophysin-II

Fidia Research Series 1(Prolactin. Basic and clinical correlates): 95-104

Acetic acid extract of bovine posterior pituitary tissue stimulated prolactin (PRL) release in oestradiol-primed male rats, while an extract of bovine hypothalamic tissue had no stimulatory effect. PRL releasing activity was isolated from posterior pituitary extracts by gel filtration; major activity was detected in the neurophysin fraction. The latter was subfractionated by ion exchange chromatography and neurophysin-I and neurophysin-II were prepared.
