The mechanical properties of New Zealand-grown Douglas fir

Early published data on the clearwood mechanical properties of New Zealand-grown Douglas fir are compared with more recent unpublished data and with data on Douglas fir grown in North America and the UK. Kaingaroa Forest yields more than half of New Zealand's production of Douglas fir. This timber is shown to be similar to virgin growth timber from the 'interior south' region of the USA, but is less stiff than Canadian-grown Douglas fir and that from other regions of the USA.
