The migration of the rural population in Poland

Wies Wspoczesna 29(8(342)): 64-75

During 1946-83 Poland's population increased by 12.8 million. During the same period the rural population decreased by 1.3 million. This paper determines the level of rural urban migration, the type of towns migrants settled in, regional variations in migration, the reasons for migration and the impact of rural urban migration on rural communities. The highest level of rural urban migration was seen in Poland's north western regions.
