The mode of action and neurotoxic properties of the nitromethylene heterocycle insecticides

The mode of action and neurotoxic properties of the nitromethylene heterocycle insecticides

Pesticide Biochemistry and Physiology 22(2): 148-160

The mode of action of the nitromethylene heterocycle group of insecticides, particularly 1-ethyl-2-(nitromethylene)piperidine, was investigated in Periplaneta americana. In vivo symptoms were characterized by a definite sequence of events, starting with abdominal quivering and followed, in order, by wing flexing, uncontrollable preening, leg tremours, violent whole body shaking, prostration and death.
