The natural resistance of cattle during early development

The natural resistance of cattle during early development

Doklady Vsesoyuznoi Akademii Sel' skokhozyaistvennykh Nauk (4): 21-22

Tests on 27 calves aged 1 to 18 months carried out at intervals of one and three months showed that bactericidel action of blood serum on E. coli strain O4 increased up to the age of 12-15 months, and stabilized thereafter. Complement activity reached two peaks at 5 and 12-15 months, with a decline inbetween. Lysozyme activity was similar to those in adult cattle, and did not vary much. Natural agglutinins present in all the calves at the age of one month had increased 12 times by 6 months.
