The quantity and quality of sour cherry trees in the nursery in relation to budding method

Zeszyty Naukowe Akademii Rolniczej w Krakowie, Ogrodnictwo (12/179): 91-104

In 2-year trials, buds of the utowka, taken with or without a leaf between 5 and 11 August, were T-budded or chip-budded but the latter method was modified as follows: 2 parallel vertical cuts were made in the bark of the rootstock (Prunus avium), roughly the width of the bud-shield, and the bark tongue was peeled back and cut, leaving a short bit at the lower end which held the inserted bud-shield (illustrated). In the case of buds with a leaf, the leaf was dipped in kinetin at 2 or 15 p.p.m.
