In a study of 21 cultivars and 15 natural strains of tall fescue and 18 cultivars (including 2 natural strains) of meadow fescue, cultivars tended to show a higher proportion of reproductive tillers and thus greater reproductive than vegetative growth than the natural populations, in both species, although there was large variation among cultivars.
