The response diagram: a possibility to predict sand movement

The response diagram: a possibility to predict sand movement

Stuttgarter Geographische Studien 105: 11-17

A diagram for distinguishing between sands according to their depositional environment (aeolian or fluvial) - empirically developed by Friedman - was interpreted anew and further developed to indicate the different response of sands to wind action. The "response diagram" was tested with a large number of sand samples (393) from the Namib, the Kalahari, the Rub' al Khali, the western and the eastern Sahara.
