The survival rate of protoscolices from hydatid fluid kept at constant temperatures

Fluid from fertile hydatid cysts from the infected lungs of camels was stored at 4, 20, 30, 40 and 50 degrees C. The viability of the protoscolices was determined by complete evagination and active body movement. The fluid was examined after 1, 2 and 4 h and then daily for 5 days. After 1 h the survival rate ranged from 95.63% (at 4 degrees C) to 55.78% (at 50 degrees C). Only protoscolices stored at 4 degrees C survived until days 4 (85.36%) and 5 (83.45%).
