Thyroxine and cortisol levels in the blood serum of cows and calves at normal parturition and parturition with retained placenta

In blood samples obtained within 12 h of calving, plasma thyroxine averaged 46 +or- 10 ng/ml in 24 normal cows and 109 +or- 12 ng/ml in 15 cows which subsequently retained their placenta.
