Tourism and socio-economic patterns in Third-World countries

Mass tourism has spread over the whole world from the highly populated and industrialized metropolitan zones to the remoter and less developed peripheries. The historical and spatial growth of international coastal tourism is analyzed in relation to a worldwide centre-periphery model of socioeconomic change in four different tourism zones. Domestic tourism can also play a significiant role in tourism-induced development.
