Turgor regulation of sucrose transport in sugar beet taproot tissue

Turgor regulation of sucrose transport in sugar beet taproot tissue

Plant Physiology 81(2): 478-481

Sucrose uptake into sugarbeet tap root tissue over a range of sucrose concn from 0-100 mM followed biphasic kinetics with a high affinity saturating component below 20 mM and a low affinity linear component at higher concn. Glucose uptake had only simple saturation type kinetics. The high affinity saturating component of sucrose and glucose uptake was inhibited by increasing cell turgor when the external mannitol concn was reduced.
