Of 20 culled Friesian cows, fattened indoors for 8 wk on silage ad lib plus 1 kg rape bran per day, and then for 10 wk on pasture, 10 were implanted with 300 mg trenbolone acetate and 10 received no treatment (controls). In the experimental and control groups resp., body weight at the beginning of fattening averaged 405.44 and 402.11 kg, daily gains during the indoor fattening period 0.82 and 0.68 kg (P<0.05), and those during the pasture period 1.58 and 1.45 kg (P<0.10).
