Variation in wood density of Scots pine and Norway spruce in the European part of the USSR

Data were collected from over 15 000 felled and standing trees in mature stands and the range and av. density given for 13 provinces/autonomous republics in the RSFSR and Belorussia. Comparisons showed that actual routine measurements by the laboratories of pulp/paper mill laboratories were within -1.1 and +4.4% of the values calculated from the table.
