Vegetative propagation of Island bush poppy

Plant Propagator 31(4): 9-10

Vegetative propagation of Island bush poppy

In trials with terminal softwood cuttings of Dendromecon rigida subsp. harfordii inserted in peat:vermiculite (1:1, v/v) and misted for 5 to 10 s/day, wounding by removing a 1.0 x 0.2 cm strip of bark from the base of the stem increased percentage rooting from 40 to 80%. Neither removal of the apical leaf cluster nor IBA treatment (4000-8000 p.p.m.) affected rooting. Cuttings grown under shade rather than full sunlight were more susceptible to disease development.
