Vegetative propagation studies in kola (Cola spp.). I. Effects of age, mist, leaf number and size

Vegetative propagation studies in kola (Cola spp.). I. Effects of age, mist, leaf number and size
Stem cuttings of juvenile C. acuminata and C. nitida (cultivars Agege Red, Ekusa and Okuku) and adult C. acuminata and C. nitida (clones AA 125, AA 176 and AA 231) were rooted under mist or without mist. Intermittent mist application enhanced rooting, especially of juvenile cuttings. The number of leaves retained on cuttings had a positive effect on callusing and only cuttings with 4 or more leaves rooted. Cultivar Ekusa had poorer rooting than Agege Red and juvenile C. acuminata.
