Sensitivity to vernalization of Express Forcer began after a short juvenile period. Vernalization of seed was not effective. At optimal temperatures for vernalization (2-8 degrees C) the critical exposure time was 6 weeks. The upper limit of the inductive temperatures lay between 11 and 14 degrees. High post-vernalization temperatures delayed flowering. The response to an interrupted chilling period was less than to a continuous chilling period with an identical amount of chilling.
