Vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizas of Ginkgo biloba L. in natural and controlled conditions
The morphology of G. biloba L. vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizas (VAM) was investigated in natural conditions and after inoculation with Glomus epigaeum Daniels et Trappe. Morphological features of the infections were similar. The most interesting morphological feature was the presence of abundant intracellular hyphae; intercellular hyphae were rare. Synthetic tests showed the complete G. epigaeum life cycle with the production of sporocarps. Natural infection of G. biloba roots is considered a common phenomenon, and G. epigaeum inoculation in controlled conditions increased growth of seedlings.
