Village irrigation systems along the Senegal River: a comparative analysis
This study evaluates the appropriateness of village level irrigation systems for rural development of the basis of a qualitative analysis of the socio-cultural and historical context of these systems within the Senegal River Valley. It concludes that the new village level systems are potentially conducive to development. They average about 15 ha, are located near villages, and have high levels of farmer participation in management decisions.
