Why is village agriculture stagnating? A social and economic analysis of Samoan village agriculture

Why is village agriculture stagnating? A social and economic analysis of Samoan village agriculture

Alafua Agricultural Bulletin 9(3): 1-12

A case study of a village in Western Samoa was undertaken to determine whether the traditional society or the economic system in which it operates is the significant cause of agricultural stagnation. The economic incentives offered by village agriculture were found to be low when compared with other possible sources of village incomes, and this low economic return was found to be the cause of stagnation.
