An efficient method for the regeneration of wheat (Triticum aestivum) from anther cultures

In a study of 4 spring genotypes and 2 winter F1 hybrids, replacement of standard potato-2 medium by a modified medium supplemented with glutamine increased the overall mean percentage of anthers yielding callus from 9.1 to 21.6%, and the percentage of anthers yielding green plants from 2.5 to 6.9%. Sucrose pretreatment of excised anthers increased the rate of callus production in the winter F1 hybrids, but not in the homozygous spring types.
