Honeys from 3 sources in California, USA, in October 1984, were tested for bactericidal activity on cultures of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Two of the samples inhibited bacterial growth, but the third had no effect. S. aureus was more sensitive than E. coli and was completely killed, whereas E. coli developed small resistant colonies in the inhibition areas during the week following treatment.
