Assessment of a bifidus containing infant formula. II. Implantation of Bifidobacterium bifidum

24 full-term infants were randomly assigned to 3 equal groups and received either formula supplemented with Bifidobacterium bifidum (BCF, described by Pahwa, A. & Mathur, B. N., Indian Journal of Dairy Science (1987) 40, 261), a commercial infant formula (CF) or breast milk (BM). After 7 days, bifidobacteria counts for BCF and BM infants were 7.41 x 108 and 9.33 x 108 c.f.u./g faeces resp. Bifidobacteria were not detected in faeces from CF infants.
